The Vikings

The first written source to the Vikings is a report from the monastery at Lindisfarne (Holy Island) in the north of England from the year 793 describing how the monastery was plundered and burned by men from the sea. Ships were the basis of all Viking activity. War, trade and exploration were carried out by sea, eastwards, southwards and westwards from the homelands.

The Oseberg Ship

The Oseberg ship was found in a large burial mound on the Oseberg farm, in Vestfold, and excavated in 1904. The ship was built sometime between 815 820 AD, but was later used as a grave ship for a woman of high rank who died in 834 AD. The Oseberg ship is a 22 meter long ship was built of oak.

Wardruna is a unique band with members form well-known black metal bands. They are exploring the ancient norse culture of the runes and their vision is to bring back to life the unknown music of Norways pagan viking past. This performance at the Viking museum is going to be an experience out of the ordinary. Don’t miss this one!
