Käthe Kollwitz is a new band in Oslos alternative scene. All the members come from a small town called Bodø, in the north of Norway, and play or have played in bands like Beyond the Fences, The Spectacle, Hjertesorg and Oceanism. After many years of dedicated service to the small but extraordinary music scene in their hometown, they are now ready to put down Oslo and the rest of the world.
The music itself is based on long and careful progressions, a vast dynamic range and the contrast between beautiful melodies and brutal noise. Many might think of Käthe Kollwitz as a metal band, though the members themselves feel as much at home in hardcore punk, post-rock and other experimental genres; a soundscape where they try to find common cause between sources of inspiration that seemingly have none; where Radiohead meets Neurosis; where Sigur Ros meets Sigur Wongraven and turns up the amplifier to 11.
As merciless agents for the DIY-ethic, Käthe Kollwitz wants to play as much as possible, and more or less anywhere. They expect nothing served to them on a silver plate, like too many bands do after barely having left the garage. The members will work hard to make this project one of importance in the very near future, and hope to tour and release a record during 2008.
Check out the Käthe Kollwitz MySpace for Mp3, pictures and information about gigs. A website will be up soon.
